South Coast ESD

South Coast Education Service District: Your Regional Partner in Education!

South Coast ESD has been a cornerstone of educational excellence in Oregon's coastal communities since 1961. Serving the diverse landscapes of Coos, Curry, and Western Douglas counties, we provide essential regional support that ensures equitable access to specialized services and resources across both rural and urban school settings.

We partner with ten school districts—Bandon, Brookings-Harbor, Central Curry, Coos Bay, Coquille, Myrtle Point, North Bend, Port Orford-Langlois, Powers, and Reedsport—collectively supporting more than 13,000 students. Our collaborative approach allows smaller districts to access the same high-quality programs and expertise available to larger systems, creating a level playing field for all learners regardless of where they live.

Over six decades, SCESD has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of our educational landscape. We provide comprehensive special education services, ensuring students with diverse learning needs receive appropriate support and accommodations. Our instructional specialists work directly with teachers to enhance classroom practices and implement research-based strategies. Our early childhood education programs give our youngest learners a strong foundation for future success.

Beyond direct services, we serve as a hub for professional development, bringing together educators from across the region to share best practices, develop new skills, and build collaborative networks. We coordinate resources, negotiate group purchasing agreements, and provide administrative support that allows our partner districts to focus on what matters most: teaching and learning.

Our core mission centers on five key goals: improving student learning outcomes, enhancing instructional quality and equity, fostering continuous professional growth among educators, ensuring all students have access to essential resources, and maximizing operational efficiency so that more resources reach the classroom. Through strategic partnerships and a deep commitment to our communities, South Coast ESD works every day to help our schools, educators, and students reach their full potential.
